Brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed restrictions

Last Updated Friday, September 4, 2026
The safety of the animals that travel with us is our highest priority. Beginning October 1, 2026, 12:01 a.m., certain brachycephalic (short-nosed) dog and cat breeds will no longer be accepted for transport in the cargo hold of Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and Horizon Air aircraft due to the increased health risk they may face during air travel. These restrictions are designed to protect animals that may be at greater risk during transport.
